Sensoan Gateway - 1+1 > 2
What happens when you combine SADE Booster IoT Asset with a requirement to connect massive amounts of wireless sensors to cloud? End result is an IoT gateway solution developed in a co-operation project between two Salo based technology companies: Sensoan and SADE Innovations.
Sensoan Gateway product makes it possible to build scalable mesh sensor networks using Wirepas based wireless sensors with low cost and ultra long battery life. Using the building blocks of the SADE Booster IoT Asset, co-operation project delivered a full, E2E IoT solution for Sensoan to use as basis for Sensoan IoT service and customer projects.
End result is composed of the following parts
- ESP32 based Sensoan Gateway electronics/PCB and firmware related to it. Enables wireless sensors to connect to AWS Cloud using either Cellular (2G/NB-IoT/LTE-M) or WiFi connectivity.
- Mechanical solution with beautiful & functional industrial design enabling different installation environments and use cases (AC or battery powered, internal/external antennas, extension connectors for additional sensors).
- AWS based serverless cloud backend providing data storage, APIs to access data, data analytics, user authentication / authorization and multi-tenant support.
- Web UI for managing users and devices, visualizing measurement data, seeing device status in real-time and performing different data analytics tasks.
The developed hardware solution shows well how capable and versatile ESP32 IoT chipset is in practice. Earlier development of such a gateway product would have required a clearly more expensive Linux based hardware solution but now all of this can be done with a low cost IoT chipset. Affordable cost level combined with the fact that ESP32 natively supports AWS IoT cloud solution provides an excellent building block for vast number of different connected device/IoT solutions.
