SADE & IONCOR – Long-term battery technology development since 2020 🔋⚡
SADE Innovations has been contributing to the development of IONCOR’s battery systems since 2020. IONCOR develops modern, scalable battery systems for vehicles and heavy machinery.
SADE has been an active partner in developing the embedded software for two key components of IONCOR’s battery systems:
🔋 BMS – Battery Management System
SADE has contributed to the BMS development of several IONCOR Power Pack and Energy Pack batteries. The BMS is responsible for battery safety and performance, including:
*temperature monitoring
*voltage and current control
*protection against overcurrent and overvoltage
*calculation of battery health (SOH) and state of charge (SOC)
Safety is at the very core of these systems, and SADE has played a key role in the development through deep technical expertise, long-term commitment, and a strong understanding of the overall system.
🧠 MBMU – Multi Battery Management Unit
In IONCOR’s battery systems, multiple high-voltage batteries can be used in parallel — and this is where the MBMU plays a critical role. It functions as a “virtual battery” that appears as a single battery to the vehicle/machine, even though 1 to 21 batteries may be connected behind it. An important advantage of the MBMU is also that the CAN interface toward the vehicle can be customized flexibly, without requiring repeated TÜV re-certifications for individual batteries. SADE has acted in a lead role in the design and implementation of the MBMU’s embedded software (C, FreeRTOS) and has also contributed to the device’s concept development.
Several SADE developers have been involved in the IONCOR projects over the years. Among them, Software Specialist Juho Nykänen has accumulated the most extensive experience, having worked on BMS development, MBMU software design, and overall system architecture.
