CeLLife

Customer context

CeLLife analyzes battery cells in seconds instead of tens of minutes. To grow internationally, the analyzer had to become a connected, cloud-managed product.

CeLLife’s patented Electrical Fingerprint™ technology replaces traditional testing for any chemistry. CeLLife’s ultra-fast measurement technology analyzes the performance and remaining lifespan of battery cells. That is critical for many global battery challenges: the availability of raw materials, variable quality in battery production, and the challenges of battery recycling and waste.

What the solution gives each group

Battery and pack makers

Every cell tested at line speed, so quality assurance covers all cells, not a sample.

Recyclers and second life

Health, performance and lifetime estimates make second-life use of cells safe.

Test operators

Test management and clear visualizations in a web app, without local data handling.

CeLLife

The algorithm runs in the cloud, improves once for every customer, and analyzers are managed remotely.

The full storyThe challenge · The SADE approach · Technology · Business outcome

The challenge

CeLLife’s ultra-fast measurement technology had to reach its customers as a device they can use themselves, with the tests and the data managed from a distance. The measurement devices needed mechanics, electronics and software built for customer use, and a way to run test setups and tests, and to collect the data in the cloud for analysis and visualization.

Why the obvious solution was not enough

A measurement device alone gives results at one place. CeLLife’s customers need to manage test setups, run tests and see clear visualizations without handling the data locally, and the analysis needs to improve for every customer at once. That takes the device, a cloud and a web application designed together.

The SADE approach

SADE and CeLLife jointly developed the mechanics, electronics and software of the remote measurement devices for customer use. The devices use cloud solutions and a web application based on SADE Booster. This way CeLLife can offer its customers a comprehensive solution that manages test setups and conducts the tests, and also collects data in the cloud for analysis and visualization.

Technology and delivery

  • Mechanics, electronics and software of the measurement device, developed jointly with CeLLife
  • Linux analyzer device (NXP i.MX8 Plus) managed remotely with AWS Greengrass
  • SADE Booster cloud: the measurements go to the cloud, where the analysis algorithm runs
  • Web application for test management and clear visualizations
  • Remote management of the analyzers

Business outcome

  • CeLLife can offer its customers a comprehensive solution: test setups, the tests, and the data in the cloud for analysis and visualization
  • Testing every cell becomes practical: over 2,000 data points per cell in 2 to 5 seconds
  • The algorithm runs in the cloud and improves for every customer at once
  • Health, performance and lifetime estimates support battery recycling and the safe second-life use of cells
