How Sensoan got a complete IoT gateway for its own service
A gateway that connects large numbers of wireless mesh sensors to the cloud: electronics, firmware, mechanics and an AWS backend, built together by two Salo companies.
Sensoan
Sensoan Gateway makes it possible to build scalable mesh sensor networks with low-cost, ultra-long-battery-life wireless sensors based on Wirepas. Sensoan and SADE Innovations, two technology companies from Salo, developed it together: using the building blocks of the SADE Booster IoT Asset, the project delivered a full end-to-end IoT solution for Sensoan to use as the basis of its IoT service and customer projects.
The solution consists of ESP32-based gateway electronics and firmware that connect the wireless sensors to the AWS cloud over cellular or WiFi, a mechanical solution with industrial design for different installation environments, an AWS-based serverless cloud backend with data storage, APIs, analytics and multi-tenant support, and a web UI for managing users and devices and following the measurement data and the device status in real time.
The project also showed how capable and versatile the low-cost ESP32 IoT chipset is: a gateway like this would earlier have needed a clearly more expensive Linux-based hardware solution.
